Posted on June 10 2014If you've been following us on Instagram, you would have heard that we've got a special addition to our already fabulous Dailylike Design Team! We are super excited to be welcoming Fiona Michelon from Craft Hunter to our little family. Her project style - beautiful, yet simple and achievable. We love it and we're itching to see what she brings us for her her very first project. Can't wait that long? Make sure you check out Fiona's blog for (in her words) lots of happy DIY ideas and creative inspo. There's lot of goodness already waiting to be made. And finally - in true new-design-team-member style, we got busy interviewing Fiona so we could bring you all the goss on our latest addition. Read on as Fiona gives us some insight into what lead her down the creative path and what's in store for the creative playground that is Craft Hunter. What is your favourite part about crafting? Shopping for supplies! I love finding new boutique paper stores or spending hours in Spotlight buying supplies I may never use. It's also the downtime that crafting provides that I love. By day I'm also the director of PR site Press Loft which keeps me nice and busy so crafting is a chance to step away from the computers and phones and get creative with my hands. Making stuff soothes the soul (unless it's a DIY which requires power tools, then it's just down-right exhilarating!) What is your first or favourite childhood memory of getting crafty? I was always a creative kid and had a crack at things like cross stitch and knitting here and there (much to my Nanna's excitement) but, just like now days, it was always the quick and easy projects that I enjoyed the most - like painting up a plaster statue or making collages for my school book covers. I always loved decorating and re-arranging my room too - I'm pretty sure we painted my bedroom at least 3 times before I was 12 including a delightful shade of dark aqua blue (my poor parents) How would you describe your crafting style? I'm definitely drawn to modern, trend-led designs, usually with lots of happy colour and geometric shapes. I especially love making things for my own home lately, or decorations for parties. I'm all about simple DIY projects that anyone can achieve, whether they consider themselves to be crafty or not. Where would we likely find you in your downtime? Trawling through op shops or markets, brunching by the water, taking photos or going for long drives with my lover to escape the city noise. What is your most inspiring quote? Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn then always be a unicorn. What's next? Any exciting plans in the pipeline for 2014 and beyond? Who knows! Since starting my blog just late last year it's been a bit of a crazy whirlwind full of amazing creative opportunities. I hope to continue contributing for a few magazines, grow Craft Hunter, hone my photography skills and just see where this happy journey takes me. I recently moved out with my boyfriend too so I'm really excited to decorate our new apartment with handmade and up-cycled pieces. Want more Craft Hunter action? Posted on March 26 2014As the launch of our new Design Team Series creeps closer and closer, we thought this would be an excellent time to get to know our new Design Team members. So friends, if you're keen to find out a little more about these talented peeps, read on...
In no particular order, let's introduce our first Design Team member - Magdalena Franco. Magdalena has the kick-ass blog The Craft Revival, is all about living creatively and is also busy launching a new hands-on craft series called Unleash Creative.Unleash Creative. I’m not personally teaching any workshops, but I hope to be able to share my skills one day. Until then, I will remain as the person behind the craft curtains making all these wonderfully inspiring events possible. If you want to see more from this crafty lady, you can get your fill here via Magdalena's blog, Facebook or Instagram accounts.
Our second Design Team member is the talented Lisa Tilse. Lisa is the genius behind the blog The Red Thread and face behind the new online magazine SCOUT. If you haven't seen this publication yet - it's a must-read.SCOUT recently and I'm super keen to work on issue two and to see how I can evolve and expand the magazine and it's reach. I want to get back into creating more one-off pieces - I'm into weaving vessels and wall hangings at the moment - and my plan is to sell these one of a kind pieces. All the fun goes out of creating when I feel like I'm on a production line, so one of a kind is the way to go. I have a few other projects in the pipeline, but I don't want to spill the beans just yet! Lisa is such an inspiration to us here at Dailylike and we're soo excited to have her on board. If you're looking for more creative tutorials to dabble in, check out Lisa's blog here. You can also find The Red Thread on Facebook and Instagram.
Next we have the lovely Rin Dawson from Papered Thoughts. A self-proclaimed creative daydreamer, Rin is on a quest to send love all around the world - pushing for a revival of paper post and a snail mail revolution. Creating the prettiest packages we ever have seen, we can't wait to see what this master of washi tape comes up with.Little Paper Lane for hours on end way back in 2010. I basically stalked Jayde (one part of the amazing husband-wife team/owners) until she became my creative mentor & friend. She's taught me a lot about the creative-business world and has given me a bunch of fabulous advice. The best one? "Don't ever undervalue yourself or your product - or everyone else will too." What's next? Any exciting plans in the pipeline for 2014 and beyond? Oh so many! This year has been HUGE for paperedthoughts with so many creative opportunities! I was lucky enough to be asked to be a creative mentor for Unleash Creative in Sydney on May 5th & I have a very exciting (but still secret) collaboration with rad graphic designer Steve from Little Paper Lane, coming soon! To follow Rin's paper adventures you can find her on Instagram or search for a pen pal on her comprehensive website directory.
Last, but definitely not least, we have stylist Sam Dunne from Dunne with Style rounding out our team of talented creatives. Sam is on-board to inject a little bit of Dailylike goodness into your daily life as well as to give some inspiration when it comes to celebrating life's special occasions. The Creative Exchange program. So next will see the growth of products available in a kit format, and the expansion of The Creative Exchange to share the creative enjoyment that it has brought with more creatives. You can see more of Sam's wonderful work on her website or through her Facebook and Instagram accounts. We look forward to bringing your exciting projects with these amazing ladies!
